# Open and navigate the Admin Panel

> Open the Admin Panel from your platform homepage and recognize its main navigation.

Use this guide to open the Admin Panel for a platform you administer and recognize its main areas.

## Before you begin

Make sure that:

* you are already signed in to the platform;
* you are using a computer or an iPad in landscape orientation.

## Open the Admin Panel

1. Open the homepage of the platform you administer.
2. In the orange administrator bar at the top of the page, select **Go to admin panel**.
3. The Admin Panel opens at **Overview** or **First steps**, depending on your platform's setup.

You can continue from either page. **First steps** is a setup checklist, not a launch approval.

## Recognize the main navigation

The Admin Panel has five top-level areas:

* **Overview**
* **Students**
* **Sales**
* **Products**
* **Platform**

Use these areas to find later administration tasks.

## Return to the platform homepage

Select **Log out** in the Admin Panel to return to the current platform's homepage. This action does not sign you out of your account.

## Troubleshooting

### The orange administrator bar is not visible

Check that you are signed in to the correct platform and that you are using a computer or an iPad in landscape orientation. The orange bar is the visible sign that your account can enter the Admin Panel. If it is not visible after these checks, you cannot use this procedure to enter the Admin Panel.
